Who we are

LoanMetric is operated by The Observable Pty Ltd and is operated from Australia.

We are committed to handling personal information responsibly. Where applicable, we handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Scope of this policy

This policy covers your use of the LoanMetric website, public calculators, My LoanMetric account features, and Statement Import.

Different features involve different data. For example, public calculator use generally involves temporary calculation inputs, while account features involve data you choose to save over time.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide, information generated by your use of LoanMetric, and limited technical information needed to keep the product reliable and secure.

  • Website and calculator usage: calculator inputs used to generate estimates, technical usage information, analytics and diagnostics data, and contact form submissions.
  • Account and profile details: your login email address, nickname or other profile details you choose to provide, and account preferences/settings.
  • My LoanMetric planning data: saved scenarios, expenses and expense categories, income entries, loan entries and assumptions, and household/member details you add.
  • Statement Import data: uploaded statement content used for extraction, extracted transaction records, selected import settings (such as category/frequency), and minimal technical metadata used for security, rate-limiting, and abuse prevention.

How we collect information

  • Directly from you when you use calculators, create an account, or enter data.
  • Automatically through your use of the website and app.
  • When you upload a file to use Statement Import.
  • From service providers that help us operate product features.

How we use information

  • Operate calculators and My LoanMetric features.
  • Save, display, and organise records you add to your account.
  • Generate estimates, summaries, and insights from your inputs.
  • Extract transactions from uploaded statements and support your review/import flow.
  • Create expense records based on transactions you choose to import.
  • Authenticate accounts and protect account security.
  • Support reliability, risk controls, and abuse prevention (including rate limits).
  • Respond to support requests and improve the product.

We do not sell personal information.

My LoanMetric account data

If you create and use a My LoanMetric account, we may store information you choose to add, including profile details, household/member data, saved scenarios, expenses, income, loans, and statement-imported transactions you decide to keep.

This lets you use account-based features and manage your data over time, including viewing, updating, and deleting records.

Statement Import (bank statements)

When you upload a statement, we process the file to extract transaction information. Local text extraction is performed on our server, and where third-party extraction is used, we take steps to reduce the personal information sent by redacting sensitive details first.

The uploaded statement file is handled in memory during processing and is not stored after extraction.

Extracted transactions are shown so you can review them before import. If you continue, selected transaction data may be saved to your account as expenses or related records.

Statement filenames may be shown during your import session, but filename details are not persisted in expense records created from imported transactions.

We also use limited technical metadata to keep this feature secure, apply rate limits, and prevent misuse. If you do not upload a statement, we cannot provide this feature.

Automated processing and product features

Some LoanMetric features use automated processing to extract, organise, and present information, including Statement Import. You review extracted transactions before they are added to Expenses.

Disclosure to service providers

We may disclose information to trusted providers that help us run LoanMetric, including providers for hosting/infrastructure, analytics/monitoring, authentication, email and communications, transaction extraction and AI-assisted statement import processing, and related storage or technical services.

We limit disclosure to what is reasonably needed to operate each feature. Providers process information on our behalf or provide services to us.

Overseas disclosure and international processing

Some providers may process or store information outside Australia. This can include processing used for statement import and other technical services.

Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to use providers and arrangements appropriate for the service. Read this section together with the Statement Import section above.

Data retention and deletion

  • Uploaded statement files: processed in memory only and not stored after extraction.
  • Extracted transaction data: may remain in your account until you delete it, or until no longer needed for the feature.
  • Account data: profile, scenarios, expenses, loans, income, and household/member data may be retained while your account is active, subject to deletion requests and operational/legal requirements.
  • Technical and security logs: limited metadata may be retained for security, fraud prevention, abuse detection, and service reliability.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

These steps may include access controls, rate limiting, redaction steps in statement processing, and secure service providers.

Analytics and cookies

We use analytics and monitoring tools to understand usage patterns, diagnose issues, and improve LoanMetric. These tools may use cookies or similar technologies.

Where practical, analytics data is aggregated or otherwise reduced in identifiability.

Access and correction

You can access and update some information directly in your account.

You can also request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold by contacting us. Please let us know if you believe information we hold is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading.

Children

LoanMetric is not directed to individuals under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
